HISTORY
Over the last three years we have developed the concept of angler's choice when it comes to killing a fish for a prize rather than a need for food so now all OBC fishing competitions are length-based. This is huge kudos for the OBC terms of sustainability and gives the angler the option to release their catch or take it for food.
'OBC Auckland' Leaderboard
This leaderboard runs all year round. Often, we have sponsored prizes, for certain species or lengths, otherwise it will be in to win a trophy at the annual OBC AGM. You can check the current comps out on the OBC website 'Competitions' page.
Any catch uploaded will be automatically included in the Auckland OBC leaderboard, even if you are competing in one of the comps mentioned below.
FFC (Family Fishing Comp)
Our largest and most popular event on the Club calendar since its inception in 1999. In 2019 this event switched from weight to length, joining the ranks of the other OBC fishing measure competitions.
The competition is a one-day event that runs either on a Saturday or Sunday and weather dependent. It targets all ages and demographics and is a fundraising opportunity for the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust.
Ladies Fishing Comp
Formerly known as the ‘Nauti Girls’, this event has been running since 2007. Another measure competition, it is regularly a fundraiser for Make A Wish and one of the most fun nights out at the Club - the fishing is followed by prizegiving, gourmet buffet, DJ and dancing!
Designed with ladies in mind - OBC member, wife, partner, family and friends. Any male on-board is their slave for the day! ??
Burnsco CUP Interclub Fishing Tournament
The Burnsco Trophy was born in the mid 1970’s when a NSOBC member came across a searchlight and they turned it in to a trophy sponsored solely by Burnsco. Originally set that the winning Club would be the one whose total weight of their biggest five snapper was the highest. Depending on which Club runs the event, can now be weight or length. (OBC run measure competitions).
You can always guarantee members of these Clubs to participate – OBC, MBBC (Maraetai Beach Boat Club), BBC (Beachlands Boat Club), TBC (Te Atutu Boat Club) and HCBC (Hibiscus Coast Boat Club).
